FAQs

We are proud to partner with Shoes That Fit.  Please review the most frequently asked questions on this important program that has helped Rack Room Shoes provide more than 63,000 pairs of shoes to children in need.  After all, every child deserves shoes that fit.

Participating Schools

Q: How do schools get involved in the Shoes That Fit program?
A: A school representative must complete an enrollment application and send it to the Rack Room Shoes corporate office.
Q: Who approves the school’s Participation Application?
A: Rack Room Shoes reviews each enrollment application, contacts the school for further information and makes the final determination based on set criteria.  If the school is chosen for the program, Rack Room Shoes will contact the school with further instructions on how the Shoes That Fit partnership works.
Q: Can parents contact Shoes That Fit or Rack Room Shoes and request new shoes for their children?
A: Because this program works exclusively through schools, we are unable to accept requests directly from parents.  However, parents may contact their child’s school to request that they be considered for the Shoes That Fit program.

Sponsorship Card and Funds

Q: How are funds raised to purchase shoes for children in need?
A: Rack Room Shoes promotes in-store campaigns at each of our 390+ locations throughout the year to collect donations for more than 400 elementary, middle and high schools.  Rack Room Shoes does not require schools to promote the program to raise funds.
Q: What is a Sponsorship Card?
A: The sponsorship card is included in the Shoes That Fit school kit that each participating school receives.  This card contains the funds that are raised for the school by its local Rack Room Shoes store and works like a gift card that the school liaison uses to make necessary purchases.
Q: Can school liaisons use coupons with the Sponsorship Card?
A: No.  Because 100% of proceeds that are raised in stores go directly to support the Shoes That Fit program, we cannot accept coupons for use with the sponsorship card.  If a school liaison would like to use a coupon with an individual purchase, we will gladly accept them for personal transactions.
Q: When are funds raised and when do selected children receive their shoes?
A: Rack Room Shoes raises funds for the Shoes That Fit program during the Back-To-School shopping season.  This allows us to provide funds at the beginning of the school year.  The school and school liaison make the determination as to when they distribute the shoes to the students.
Q: What if there is remaining credit on the Sponsorship Card?
A: The school liaison does not have to use all the money at one time.  If the school liaison only spends a portion of the funds, a credit will remain on the card for use at a future date.
Q: How can a Store Manager or school liaison check the balance on a sponsorship card?
A: To view the current balance, please visit www.rackroomshoes.com, click on “Gift Cards.”  From there, simply enter the card number located on the back of your sponsorship card.

School Liaisons and Store Managers

Q: Who coordinates the effort between the school and Rack Room Shoes?
A: When a school fills out the participation application, they designate a school liaison and alternate liaison that will coordinate the efforts between the school and Rack Room Shoes. This can be any person who is employed by the school or district (teacher, counselor, administrator, etc.).
Q: How are students selected?
A: The shoes must go to children from low-income families or those living below the poverty level. Rack Room Shoes depends on the school staff to identify which students need the most help and the school staff supplies the necessary information to the school liaison.
Q: Who measures students for their shoes?
A: We recommend the school liaison listed on the school’s participation application measure the students, as they are most familiar with the program.  For safety reasons, the individual who measures the student MUST be a staff member employed by the school or district.
If your local Rack Room Shoes store does not have the shoe size or width needed, the store manager will work with other Rack Room Shoes locations to find the proper fit.
Q: What can be purchased?
A:
  • Any athletic styles that are good for everyday wear at school.
  • Boots without heels.
  • Socks, shoelaces, sneaker balls and waterproofing sprays.
  • Sport style sandals that are not flip flops.
  • Items that are NOT permitted include: cleats, golf shoes, wedges and platforms, high heels and flip flops.
  • A full list of approved items can be found in the “What Can I Buy?” guide, which is provided to school liaisons.
